General Season Spike Camps or Drop Camps
Horse Mountain
Horse Mountain camp is located on Smith Creek right across from the mouth of Jakie Creek and under Horse Mountain. This camp offers excellent mule deer hunting with some of the best in the immediate area of camp. Elk hunting is good in the lower end of Weasel Creek, Jakie Creek, Moudess Creek, and on Horse Mountain.
The camp itself is on private ground although most of the areas you will hunt are in the wilderness. It is a short four-mile trip into Horse Mountain. The country was also burned in 1988 and is very open. There are many areas that can be glassed right from camp in the evening.
For a spike camp we provide tents, cots, stoves and the kitchen. Horses will be used with a guide to get you started each day who will take care of the horses and advise you on hunting. You will not take horses out without a guide. He will take you out on the mornings and help familiarize you with the area. You will provide all groceries and cooking for yourselves as well as our guide. We will pack all the game, but you are responsible for caping and tending to your own trophies.
For a drop camp we pack you and your gear in on horses. You have the option of walking the short four miles if you wish. There will not be any guides; just your own group of hunters and hunting will be done on foot. You will be responsible for getting any game you bag to camp, and we will pack it out of camp for you. For a fee (usually $200.00 depending on difficulty) we will pack game from the location of the kill. We provide tents, cots, stoves and kitchen. You will provide the groceries and do your own cooking.
Guaranteed licenses by law may not be used for drop camps. Drop camp hunter must put in to the general draw.
