There are lots of ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, but one of the best – and one you may not have considered – is on a pack trip into Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. While we offer trips throughout the summer, we happen to have one that includes the Fourth of July.
Scheduled for July 3-8, 2025 the trip includes the long Independence Day weekend, which also gives you the chance to stretch your vacation days farther.
And while you have lots of options for picking a place to celebrate the Fourth of July, here are four reasons Montana is the ultimate getaway.
1. Escape the crowds. Parades and lake days can be fun, but on a pack trip it’s just you, your traveling partners and our crew. Full disclosure: the horses and mules also travel with us. You may also see wildlife along the way, but luckily they don’t like crowds either.
2. Celebrate with nature’s fireworks. Who needs sparklers when you have Montana’s gorgeous night sky? From our camp at White River, you’ll have an unfiltered look at the star-filled sky. While you’re sitting around the campfire, be sure to keep an eye to the heavens and watch for shooting stars.
3. Enjoy freedom, Montana style. Montanans are known for being fiercely independent. When you visit, you’ll see the old adage of treating each other kindly, living and let live and being true to yourself in person.
